The Wattoning Historical Site houses the remains of an old homestead and early settlement and provides an insight into the struggles experienced by the early pioneers of the region. The settlement was developed to cart water to the township at the turn of the 19th century. Look at the skilful brickwork of the deep well and the intriguing Gnamma Holes which were dug through the rock to draw drinking water for the settlers. Imagine the hardships experienced by the settlers trying to set themselves up in this harsh climate.
